Kim Soia
Kim Soia is an Australian abstract expressionist artist who paints large-scale, multi-layered oil on canvas paintings.
Kim Soia’s inexplicably beautiful paintings are powerful, complex, emotionally seductive, mysterious and fascinating.
Kim Soia’s paintings consist of hundreds, or thousands, of ambiguous shapes of various sizes and complexity.
“Each of my paintings contains multiple layers of thick impasto oil paint. Each of my paintings generally takes me two to three years to complete as each thick layer of oil paint must dry for three to four months before I can proceed to paint the next layer.”
I work on forty to fifty paintings simultaneously in sizes ranging from 98cm x 98cm to 300cm x 200cm.
I create a deep, multi-layered matrix of ambiguous shapes which gives the viewer the opportunity to create an imaginary world and imaginary feelings which are a reflection of the viewer’s inner psychological, emotional and spiritual world.”
